The Canadian artist may feel like "another creature whose lost its vision," but on "Here Comes the Cowboy," his vision is perfectly intact. "Choo Choo" and the latter half of the 7-minute track "Baby Bye Bye" feature a funkier DeMarco than his typical slow jam aesthetic, while "Little Dogs March" gives more of what you'd expect from DeMarco. Overall, DeMarco delivers an album true to his traditional style, yet not afraid to experiment. One can deem DeMarco guilty of the former, but not of the latter. but to allocate a bad property to an album out of pure duration is another.

The mini-LP was preceded by the release of four streaming singles on Spotify, The Way Youd Love Her, Another One, Ive Been Waiting for Her, and No Other Heart. How much of an identity can one create for himself with a fake name and a thoroughly settled sound Mac DeMarco is definitely pushing the limits. In "Preoccupied" he laments about a world with "no conversation"- one where people have opened up their minds, but "filled it with (expletive)." In "Finally Alone," a cowboy desperate to get away takes a flight to Spain. Another One is the second mini-LP by Canadian singer-songwriter Mac DeMarco released on Augby Captured Tracks. The class clown was typically an obvious one, and everyone had their favorites for class heartthrob. AugBack in high school, it was always fun to fit people into superlatives based on their personalities or reputation. The cowboy theme perhaps alludes to the way an isolated DeMarco feels. Album Reviews Mac DeMarco : Another One by Virginia Croft. Throughout the record, DeMarco employs his typical lazy-rock style intermixed with lo-fi effects, yet adds a Western tinge to reflect the album's cowboy motif. A mini-LP entirely comprised of love songs, Mac DeMarco is steering further away from slacker-rocking, straight into bubblegum pop territory, or at least his own warped take on it. "Heart to Heart" also looks at past years of a connection, while "All Our Yesterdays" confronts the tension of the past and future head on: "All of our yesterdays have gone now/ But that don't mean your dream is over." Return of the Mac, get up What it is, what it does, what it is is Another One. In "K," a slower, more stripped back song for DeMarco, he comforts a lover, grateful for the path that brought them together and foreseeing the hard times ahead: "Anytime it feels as though my love has gone away/K, settle down, turn around, take this song, let it play."

"Here Comes the Cowboy," DeMarco's fourth full length album, carries a tone of melancholy mixed with hesitancy as DeMarco seemingly has one foot ahead of him and one in the past. "Another creature/Whose lost its vision" DeMarco sings of himself. This reticence is palpable on "Nobody," DeMarco's first single off "Here Comes the Cowboy." But at their best, these songs have a charm that’s aching and amiable.Mac DeMarco, "Here Comes the Cowboy" (Mac's Record Label)įor a musician who rose to fame quickly - and somewhat unexpectedly considering his niche indie roots - it's natural that Mac DeMarco may feel some reluctance when diving full force into the limelight. A fifth project, 'This Old Dog', was released today. 'Another One' is Mac's fourth album, as well as his most recent.
His self described 'jazz jazz' style has been met with mixed criticisms, but ultimately favored. Sometimes it’s all too universal: A chorus like “believe me, I’ve been waiting for her” has both a winning simplicity and a numbing familiarity. Mac Demarco is a Canadian psychedelic indie rock artist. “Must be another one she loves.” DeMarco has said that this is his stab at universal pop - everyone has found and lost love, after all. “Who could that be knocking at her door?” he asks in the title track, as he ponders love and trust slipping away. The lyrics are full of heartbreak and longing, with DeMarco’s voice and guitar threading through melancholy keyboards like a cat looking for a sunbeam in a room with the shades drawn.
Over the course of four releases since 2012 - not one of them more than 35 minutes long - the Canadian singer-songwriter has continually upped the ante without exactly playing high stakes, and this eight-track mini-LP is his craftiest set of tunes yet. His melodies and slide guitar stumble and dance their way through songs that often feel like reverse Polaroids: A fully developed image fades into haze as you watch. A boy hero to indie-rock fans who prize delicately demented pop, Mac DeMarco has the casual grace of early Beck, bringing a shambolic scuzz to the creamy sounds of Seventies soft rock.
